mmmm... mmm... mmm... mmm... mmm... no ley... my heart still in one piece and bobbing regularly..
one question tho, can someone educate me here on how does dat dress work wif those shoes AND dat bag? all dat money but it doesn't buy taste and in this case it is so obviously proven..
dear alleycaat, it's an alaia dress, and obvioulsy Zanotti shoes, since mrs reis is posing with Giuseppe himself, at the shop opening at ION. perhaps the lady herself cares to describe how the outfit was styled?
hello hello! ooooh this is exciting lol! i would love to explain my outfit but you know at the end of the day, personal style is something that really doesnt and shouldnt need to be justified. after all its just a dress, with shoes and a bag ; )
Dear Shabnam, Alleycaat and Brainwave, thanks for you comments. Shabnam: Your comment is graceful and classy, but I should like to hazard that you are being extremely modest: No one who works in the industry, and collects those bags can quite say 'it's just a dress with shoes and bag.' i think in your case, it's something more. it would be interesting to hear more about your personal style and what the items mean to you. Alleycaat: i agree that great wealth does not always equal great taste, but i've seen worse. Brainwave: Dunno what you are trying to say but thanks for your comments!
Daniel I grew up and work in the industry and can confidently say that at the end of the day even though i "collect" things, i do look at it as just a bag and a dress and a pair of shoes in the sense that they are just things, and I do not let them define me as a person. Also i must say that taste, great or otherwise, is so relative and individual and we all know that one man's meat can be another man's poison. So it can be a very personal thing. Or not...Especially with stylists around, a lot of people can not and should not be defined by what they wear as it may have nothing to do with them in the first place lol! Which has made me stop being so critical with my opinions of how other people put themselves together. To share a bit about my personal style as per your request, i will say very generally say that i have come to a stage where i am not very experimentive and choose certain designers repeatedly (eg like alaia) as i appreciate their simple silhouettes and timelessness of design. I am more inclined to experiment with accessories, like the "balmain-inspired" Hermes birkin which both Hermes Paris and I enjoyed working on as we were trying to break the norm, look outside the box & bring an 'edge' to the birkin through the work of the bag. This process of working with Hermes was enjoyable to me and is what makes the bag special for me. With shoes, its easy to change a look or create a look with a pair of shoes and i have noticed a new "trend" in my dressing starting from shoes up now ;)
lemme first begin by saying that my comment is purely based on aesthetics and is not at all a personal attack.
the dress, the shoes and the bag are great - on it's own - but they dun quite work as a look when thrown together and it doesn't take a stylist see tat. it is disappointing to see when one has spent all tat effort and as i have mentioned in my earlier comment moola and yet having to only end up with a look that says bleaaah and especially when being photographed.
Shabnam: Thanks for that interesting comment about style, clothes, and 'things'. It strikes me that even your comments are very much of a piece with your personal style: Polite, polished and properly lady-like! This is what I mean when I say a dress, bag or shoe isn't just a dress, bag or shoe. They are clues to the person's character. About being dressed by stylists - Perhaps this is either a luxury or laziness; In either case, it still shows you what the person is made of. Alleycaat: I get what you're saying - that the different elements in the outfit don't necessarily work together - but I do think that's where personal style comes in. Or not. As Shabnam points out, there is no accounting for different tastes. This little discussion is what I hoped the blog would be about, a starting point for discovering for ourselves what personal style and taste is! Thanks everyone, and have a good weekend.
