Perfume Candy Girl

It cheers me up no end: This Miss Dior Cherie commercial by Sofia Coppola marries many things I j'adore... Paris on a summer's day should always be like this! And the perfect soundtrack is Moi Je Joue performed by Brigitte Bardot. Oui! It's the modern day, version of Ms Coppola's Marie Antoinette. The song: I Want Candy by Bow Wow Wow. Don't you love the name?

  1. lovely.

ms coppola's aesthetics seems to have two defining characteristics:

    - a 'confectionery' - almost artificial - colour palatte; and

    - strong, over-exposed lighting, plus often shooting against sunlight, resulting in rather late 60s-early 70s style washed out characters & silhouettes, something that you so often see on LP album art from that era, like a Carole King or a Carly Simon cover...

  2. Dear Anon: The backlighting makes the images hazy and dreamy... and soft. The net effect is a super girlish feminity, which i think she has carved out as her particular territory, since the virgin suicides i think. it seems to be the millieu she's keen to explore, a sort of fashion lolita - u can see it in marie antoinette as well as the dior cherie ad? the palette supports this idea - pastels and sugared summery colours.
