Dear Beauty: I think we do; Or at least the authourities think we do: They certainly are trying to make batik our fabric - if you witness the way batik is being marketed on SQ (on the girls, menu, cards, porcelain, etc) you will see what i mean. Also the malay people and perenakans traditionally wear batik so this is also very much in our culture. But i think it's just silly to claim this or that fabric as belonging to one or the other culture simply because borders are so porous.
i love batik, thai silk. if only we have our own fabric.
