He Said She Said

"You know what charm is: a way of getting the answer "yes" without having asked any clear question." - Albert Camus (1913-1960)

  1. a very pretentious and unnecessary way of defining it. Makes the speaker not charming and this listener not charmed. Beauty.

  3. sigh - the late Monsieur Camus was certainly one of the most photogenic - and stylish - of all philosophers (not that that's saying much)...

  4. Dear Beauty: I wonder what your definition would be. Do share.
Dear Anon 1: Confidence is part of charm I think.
Dear Anon 2: That's exactly what I thought - he took some good photos with that ever present cig hanging from his mouth. He would so fit into today's culture where style is everything.

    exactly.

except that he had real substance, too. he's also blessed with that ability rarely found in philosophers: a writing style that's succinct, pithy, & short. he's able to condense almost all of his philosophical ideas into the book-length essay, The Myth of Sisyphus, which weighs in at a mere 120 pages, albeit a rather jam-packed & challenging 120 pages...:)
