Stills of production designer Sarah Greenwood's gorgeous work on 2005's Pride and Prejudice (yes, that one with the dreadful Kiera Knightley). We're looking at the Bennet family house, Longbourne (actually Groombridge Place). Greenwood's assignment here was to visually convey that the Bennets are far less financially secure than Darcy or the Bingleys. But of course to us, the Bennets live rather comfortably, with interiors leaning toward the opulently rustic ('Longbourne' is filled with early 18th-century styles: Queen Anne, Early Georgian). Instead of delicate painted furniture, the Bennets have stained-wood chairs and tables with cabriole legs, and sturdy cabinets with that tattered-around-the-edges feel.
