I want to state again: Christopher Bailey is one of fashion's most talented designers and I think him extremely, inexplicably, underrated. His creativity and hardwork is rarely remarked upon, and yet he delivers, like clockwork, brilliant collection after brilliant collection right on schedule. Marks should be given for consistency and perseverance, although these aren't the qualities usually extolled in fashion.
In this essay on outerwear, Mr Bailey seems to be addressing the urban explorers, pioneers and soldiers of today, while answering the narrow brief of the Burberry heritage. One of his strongest and most romantic collections in recent memory, the heroic swagger and sweep of the military-influenced looks that Bailey showed are not academic exercises but exhilarating flights of the imagination. I'm so pleased to note the pants are narrow again!
