Black Swan!

The Jan 2011 cover, in fact, looks older than the May 2002 cover, otherwise, it is very much the same thing, right down to the pleated pink dress and the hair. A bit of an oversight on Anna's part?

  1. would 'uninspired' be too kind an adjective for this snooze-inducing cover?

  2. Dear Anon: Make that the second 'snooze' inspiring cover of ms portman. I saw somewhere today someone dug up a vogue 2002 cover of ms portman in almost exactly the same look. I'll try to dig it up and put it side by side.

  4. i donch get natalie, or any of the other young actresses below 30.

  5. Dear Anon: Fashion really hasn't moved that much in the last 30 years, but Anna Wintour's Vogue has stopped recording fashion in the last decade or so. They feature the same things year after year and this is a very good example of what her taste is.
Dear Beauty: I seriously doubt that Ms Portman is under 30 but I get your drift.

  6. i would've find it very interesting if the cover would be as dark as the role she did in Black Swan. can't wait to see this movie! the trailer looks amazing. anywho... i love your blog very much! i came on here looking for avedon's photos of nureyev and also read your nietzsche quote about individuality. great stuff!

  7. dear dennisvanvreden: I'm thrilled that you like my little blog. Hope you come back often, as i try to put up something everyday (at least once!). did you see the amazingly beautiful nureyev in his youth?
I can't wait to see black swan either. It's so drag! It's the billy elliot of 2011.
Both the vogue covers look bland - very much to anna wintour's taste.

  8. haha my names dennis. and YESS! billy elliot is probably my alltime favorite movie! i watched yesterday after seeing the black swan trailer. im actually going to see sleeping beauty by our national ballet in two days here in amsterdam! and well u cant really critize anna's taste... she's had quite some good work done during her reign. but maybe she should pass the baton while she's still relevant

  9. Dear Dennis: Ahhh... I watched Billy Elliot a couple of times, Jamie Bell is sooo cute isn't he? He's somewhat Dickensian, right down to his colouring.
Ahhh... amsterdam: My fave jeans come from there - GStar! I only wear GStar jeans and I remember going to this van gogh museum there and a lovely restaurant set in a garden.
