Drag Attack

W's January 2011 issue has designer Joseph Altuzarra wearing a dress from his own Spring 2011 collection. This is getting to be pretty old by now.

  1. i don't get the point of this?! Make men wear female clothes. Make girls wear men clothes. Make trams wear branded clothes. What's next? make corpse wear couture? how about siamese twins? Am i missing the plot? Is it supposed to make people sit up and take notice? With these ideas? Please educate.

  2. Dear Beauty: I think you unknowingly hit in the point - I think right now, these categories - men's clothes, women's clothes, etc - are becoming obsolete. secondly, the fashion pyramid is getting flatter (more democratic, less top-down, less exclusive) by the day and anyone, and everyone can be a style star (eg bryanboy, tavi). It is a result of the rise of new media. anything goes, increasingly, and it's actually quite exciting.

  3. Dear Beauty: Oh! I didn't mean to sound pompous but glad you found my opinion interesting. X

  6. Dear Anon 1: Do you know, I have no inkling? It certainly looks Inez.
Dear Anon 2: I wonder what makes you say that? Care to share?

  7. Bryanboy just perpetuates this tiresome stereotype of Asian gay man being super-queeny and super-twinky. And let's not get into his dubious taste.

And that shrill American accent of his? Wondered if he bought it from a K-Mart bargain bin...

  8. Dear Anon: LOL. Actually i'm not sure what is worse - the tiresome stereotype of the super-queen twink or the tiresome reality of the asian macho mary. The former is now so rare and the latter is grimly humourless.
But agreed, Bryanboy is rather shrill - voice, persona, taste.
