Frederic Malle, the French perfumer, proclaims that his latest fragrance is one of his best ever. It's not a pretty picture, and the numbers paint a gloomy picture for traditional media. Here's how fashion magazines fared this September compared to last September, according to statistics from the American Audit Bureau of Circulations:

• Harper's Bazaar up 22 percent to 255,000 copies. Cover: Jennifer Aniston
• Glamour up 1 percent to 624,000 copies. Cover: Jennifer Lopez
• Marie Claire up 1 percent to 338,273 copies. Cover: Mary-Kate Olsen
• Vogue down 5.5 percent to 540,000 copies. Cover: Halle Berry
• InStyle down 6 percent to 800,000 copies. Cover: Hilary Swank
Despite experiencing the worst dip in this category, they still sold the most copies.
• Elle down 10 percent to 390,000 copies. Cover star: Julia Roberts
• W down 14 percent to 30,000 copies. Cover: Yaya DaCosta, Jennifer Lawrence, Greta Gerwig, Kat Dennings, Jessica Chastain, Emma Roberts, Zoë Kravitz and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Did you notice that his hair is becoming very much a statement tsunami? The iconic Great Wave off Kanagawa, an Edo era woodblock print by the Japanese artist Hokusai, which has inspired many artists over the years, must have inspired Aunty Karla to create this Great Wave hairdo for Beloved Baptiste, the Cross-Eyed One!

Pietro Perugino (1446–1524)

Pietro Perugino was the leading painter of the Umbrian school; He developed some of the qualities that found classic expression in the Italian High Renaissance. Raphael was his most famous pupil, and you can see the teacher's influence in his work. Perugino started painting at Arezzo, then moved to Florence, where he apprenticed alongside Leonardo da Vinci. Perugino was one of the earliest Italian practitioners of oil painting. When Perugino died, he left considerable property to his three sons.

The poetry of Roddy Lumsden, composed on set and read by Kate herself, provides the perfect soundtrack. She sounds so cute!

Fables

German photographer Karen Knorr combined ornate French interiors and taxidermy animals to create a photos that are part fairytale and part nightmare. Shown last spring at Paris’s Musée Carnavalet Fables—Photographies features 15 large-scale photos that involve various taxidermy creatures (foxes, squirrels, beavers, flamingos) inhabiting the elegant salons of renowned French chateaux Chambord and Chantilly. Famed Parisian taxidermist Deyrolle loaned many of the animals featured in the works, and Knorr’s quirky compositions bring them to life in unexpected settings. A squirrel and a fox contemplate a marble staircase, two stags lock horns in a grand foyer, a rabbit scampers beneath Louis XV chairs.

Estee Lauder has taken a reasonably pretty Chinese girl and made her into a... reasonably pretty 19th century drag queen. She looks like she stepped out of the first chapter in some Amy Tan saga of a long suffering Chinese transexual in 1890s San Francisco. Very festive, you must agree!
