Newton's sensibility is European (in contrast to Avedon's), and his pictures have humour and irony, even though his subject matter is usually pretty sinister. He prefers blondes to brunettes and has a thing for bondage-high heels. Of course this is dumbing-down a lot, but I'm tired out from Dr Georgia's togas and chitons party last night. I just want to point out that there is a lot of tranvestism in Newton's picures, and there he is, in heels, looking perfectly cosy.

ReplyDeletewell, newton is really very influential, and if you look at the work of steven klein, you can see that newton has influenced him greatly in the aesthetics, and the cool, distanced perversity.
