Penguin Books Is 75 Years Old

My beloved Penguin Books celebrated their 75th birthday last month. Penguin brought affordable paperback editions of popular books to shops, train stations, and other nontraditional bookselling locations, and revolutionized publishing and reading. The bookcovers featured simple, bold design, and color coding: orange for general literature, blue for biography, etc
Here are some of my favourite Penguin Jane Austen covers over the years.

  2. Anon: They were the bread and butter books of my NUS days... I'm still reading my penguin jane austen novels, brown with age, but the pages are still amazingly glued to the flexible spine! the covers have creased and faded and yet refuse to fall off. that's quality for you...

  5. thanks for the info. the arts faculty at NUS back then sounded like fun.

if i had gone to NUS, i think i would have read eng lit & philo, but a last-minute fluke overseas scholarship diverted me, and not necessarily for better results in the long-run...
