Pottery Has Saved My Life

"Pottery has saved my life! It stops me from using ink, which has become too dangerous, since everything we write is systematically deformed by our readers." - Jean Cocteau

  1. when i saw the heading, i thought to myself, now dear DG had joined some Art Therapy Group - good for him. in these stressful days we all of us need some creative outlet/psychological balm to maintain our peace of mind.

then it turned out to be a saying by Cocteau. oh well. his plates were cute, and made for great wall-hangings as i saw them being displayed as such at a gallery many moons ago. i don't imagine anyone would actually want to eat from them now would they...

  2. Dear Erudite Anon: I could never again think of any of his work as cute after i bought his book 'the passionate penis'. As well as displayed wouldn't you decant wine into one of them jars? a bundle of tiger orchids into the vase? a pyramid of mangoes for the platters? pretty things should be used. my walls are bare, actually.
as for therapy: i was just thinking of taking up stitching! that would be calming and useful, don't you think?

  3. of course you're right: pretty things should be used. :)

and as a matter of fact, someone did once recommend stitching to me during my somewhat OCD phase many moons ago. but alas my fingers were just too clumsy, so Zoloft did the trick instead.
