Scrapbook

Assouline is bringing out Beaton: The Art of the Scrapbook next month. Someone please get it for me. It's one of those real must-have-immediately type situations. It sort of makes me want to do my scrapbooks again. Other books I'm dying to get are Blow by Blow, the Isabella Blow bio by husband Detmar, as well as the novel The Book of Salt by Monique Truong.

  1. collage - really one of the defining techniques of last century's visual art isn't it, the other technique being abstraction?

  2. Dear Anon: I'm rather a bit tired of the collaging and pastiche aren't you?

  3. hear hear - i too am rather tired of Post-Modernism as manifested in visual art and architecture, where pastiche/collage/montage & an indiscriminate mixture of styles reign supreme. Po-Mo cultural theories i can still embrace abt 60 to 70%.

  4. Dear Anon: It's the endless recycling that's tiresome - and this is especially obvious in fashion as the cycles are smaller.
